Dyslexia

Difficulty in learning to read or interpret words, letters, and other symbols in children with above average intelligence.

The Challenge

Hereditary

10-15% of all children are dyslexic. This is equally distributed across geographies, languages, social economic backgrounds and genders.

Resources not available

18 month backlog due to 40% over-demand of existing training programs. Insufficient trained tutors available to meet needs. Costs are unaffordable for most.

Screening too late

Dyslexic children need to be identified and receive evidenced-based training before 3rd grade to have a meaningful and sustained impact in their lives.

Lack of Assistance

Less than one-third of the children reading below age, ability or grade level receive services. Dyslexic children drop out of school at more than three times the rate of non-dyslexic children.

Neural Signature of Dyslexia: Dyslexia is specific and identifiable.

Massachusetts General Hospital: Learning & Emotional Assessment Program (LEAP).

Children do not respond to traditional reading or math teaching methods.

They need explicit decoding and phonological training.
