The RAVE-O Curriculum

Evidence-based approach to reading fluency

  • Word recognition skills and comprehension
  • Visual scanning, orthographic pattern recognition, semantic and syntactic development and lexical retrieval.
  • Automaticity in phonological, orthographic, semantic, syntactic and morphological systems
  • Teach systematic, theoretical principles that underlie fluency and decoding through: explicit instruction in skills underlying fluency and comprehension

After 70 – one hour sessions. NICHD: Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.

Gains are sustained, MCAS (Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System) Scores can be tracked, student reading improvement and expanded vocabulary knowledge and provides strategies for ongoing vocabulary development.

  • The RAVE-O curriculum has been a fun and organized way to help students with fluency and decoding.  The focus on MIMS (many interesting meanings) and MICS (many interesting connections), along with other RAVE-O language and tips, made it easier for students to remember key concepts. I see them use the strategies taught in the program to tackle new words and to comprehend the stories that we read.
